The article below is a summary on only some aspects of the Nightblade. If you need something more extensive and comprehensive, this digital book is your best bet. It helped me build a powerful nightblade and reach the level cap in a week's time. The included up-to-date, in-depth section on strategies will perfect your game, just as it did with mine.
At first, combat may feel incredibly easy, as a Nightblade the best soloist. However, mobs will start appearing in packs of two or more and will have more health as you near level 10. This is where you will need to think about survivability and self-healing and to start prioritizing the abilities you use.
Killing one target as quickly as possible is mostly your goal when with multiple-mob packs. There are two ways to do this: stun (Teleport Strike and Veiled Strike are recommended) or crowd control an enemy and quickly take it down, or crowd control the secondary enemy and take down the first. Area-of-effect damage-wise, Nightblades do not have a lot. Remember that your best bet is to do as much as single target damage as possible while prioritizing kill targets. Casters, just like squishy targets, make for perfect primary targets.
While leveling, crowd control elements and stuns will come in extremely handy. Teleport Strike, Veiled Strike, Agony and Soul Shred – these are some of the most recommended abilities that stun, disorient or otherwise impair enemies, so make sure to slot a couple of them.
While using your Stamina for weapon attacks, you may find that it’s best to save your Magicka for stuns and other crowd control ailments. This may not be necessary as you gain levels. But for the early levels, especially during long fights, having issues with Magicka regeneration is quite common for Nightblades.
A couple of abilities that serve as survivability cooldowns or self-heals should be slotted. Strife works and so does Blur. To leech extra health, Strife can be placed on multiple enemies. A morphed version of Assassin’s Blade, Killer’s Blade, can also be used to gain health by finishing off enemies.
Remember to use dodge, block and interrupt heavily. For this purpose, save some Stamina during combat. If possible, avoid ground effects always. When to block or interrupt, you will have to learn to watch for cues from enemies. Casters will visibly ready a spell to interrupt, and melee attackers “wind” up heavy attacks that can be blocked.
It makes it easy to quickly take an enemy down if you can disorient them by successfully blocking an attack. The enemy will also be knocked down again if the disoriented is followed up with a heavy weapon attack. A great way to take down an enemy without taking any damag is this combo.
To effectively take down enemies as a Nightblade, heavy and light attacks should both be used. A great opener and follower to disorients, just as in the case above, are heavy attacks. Killing adds that do not have much health or finishing off an enemy with teeny tiny health are great uses for light attacks. In addition to that, you can spam light attacks while running to avoid ground effects if you need to move while attacking. While strafe, just tap your attack key.
Fights that prove difficult such as mini-boss fights or large packs of monsters is where you should try and save your ultimate ability for when you have gained access to them. To finish off the first mob of a difficult pack, use Death Stroke. Or to stun an entire group, use Soul Shred.
Heatlh potions are another thing that you should slot on. Hold “Q” for PC players to bring up your quickslot bar and drag potions to this bar. In combat, you can use them by pressing “Q” again.
To take less damage, it is possible for a Nightblade to use invisibility when in combat. To set up stun attacks and others without getting hit by dangerous attacks, moving around the battlefield can be enhanced by using invisibility, although you wont drop out of the combat. Take advantage of the Shadow Cloak.
